About The Artist
My work features a diverse selection of one-of-a-kind and limited
edition handcrafted basketry.I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the College of Design, Iowa State University. I have taken various basketry classes including the Appalachian Center for the Crafts, Center Hill Lake, Tennessee and Amana Arts Guild, Amana, Iowa. I am a member of several basketry state guilds and I exhibit my work in juried and invitational shows throughout the Midwest. My earliest works include basketry constructed with hand cast-paper, willow, pine needle, splint white oak and ash. My current specialty is designing and building pieces directly on hardwood bases with vivid colors. I embellish my pieces with beads, leather, old jewelry and found items from nature. I formulate all of my colors and hand-dye my own materials. My work is contemporary, functional and fun. I work and teach basketry classes from my studio in Story City, Iowa. |
